5 things that will keep you safe these holidays

We are approaching the time of candle-lighting, Christmas light hanging and celebrating! This season unfortunately is also known for elevated statistics of home fires. The best gift that you can give yourself this holiday season is the gift of safety, so we have prepared five tips, that will serve as reminders to have peaceful holidays full of cheer.

1.  Your precious Christmas tree
We bet it is going to be extra beautiful this year! To make sure it is also safe, keep it away from fireplaces and radiators. The tree, dried out, can turn into a dangerously flammable object deep inside your home. The same precautions should be considered if you choose the artificial tree (when buying, look for the fire-resistant label) as it is likely to melt. As we all love to decorate it with string lights, we move to the tip number 2.

2. Your bright lights
Before plugging them in - check all holiday light cords to make sure they aren't frayed or broken. Make sure that you don't string more than three strands of lights from one extension cord. And lastly, when leaving the house or going to sleep, turn them off – you will not only save on the electricity bill, but also make sure that your home is safe.

3. The warm feeling on the candle-light
Candles can really set the atmosphere in the winter, right? But, as it is an open flame, make sure you are extra-careful with them! Set them in  a candle holder that is sturdy and won’t tip over and put them on a non-flammable and uncluttered surface.
Remeber to make sure your children cannot light the candles themselves and always extinguish them before going out of the room or leaving the house!

4. A new toy
Before plugging the new toy or just received home appliance into the socket, make sure you have read the instructions carefully. Get to know the safety precautions and do not leave the new things plugged in while you are not in attendance. Make sure the gifts you give to kids are age-appropriate and there is no chocking hazard. And overall – have fun with the gift!

5. Lighting up the sky
The New Year celebrations more and more often are accompanied with fireworks, but there are great risks to be considered, so make sure that people and especially children are at a safe distance  - they can cause a serious burn as they reach temperatures of about 2,000°. Don’t place any part of your body directly over a firework device and don’t try to re-light or pick up fireworks that haven’t ignited fully. A good idea is to keep a bucket of water, garden hose or fire extinguisher nearby, just in case.

We hope you have a safe and happy time these holidays!
